A Spring Message from SGPA’s Board President

Dear Friends,

This is a special year for our beloved Sleeping Giant State Park. Earlier this spring, the Sleeping Giant Park Association (SGPA) celebrated its centennial – marking 100 years of land conservation, stewardship, and community engagement.

And another major milestone awaits us this fall…

October 12, 2024 is 100 years to the day that the park opened its gates to the public. That’s a century of memories made along the trails, of critical habitats protected and restored, of discovery and exploration, and of community coming together for a common cause.

As we look back at this first century, it’s impossible to ignore the many gifts that have made the park what it is today. Supporters like you are the backbone of SGPA, and are what push forward our shared mission of protecting and stewarding the Sleeping Giant.

Will you make a special centennial gift to the Sleeping Giant with a gift of $100? Your generosity will help us do so much more…

Expanding the Park – Thanks to your past support, SGPA was able to complete a significant land acquisition earlier this year. When transferred to the State, this will be the largest addition to the park in more than a decade – meaning more space for wildlife, more trails for hiking, and more nature for everyone. This was possible because you chose to invest in our shared future.

A New Chapter with a Visitor Center – For over a decade, SGPA has dreamed of a visitor center at the park — a hub for education, engagement, and interpretation. Now, this dream is becoming a reality, with construction expected to start later this year. Your contributions have been instrumental in bringing this idea to reality. Let’s continue to build this dream together.

Restoring Beauty – Remember the tornado’s impact? SGPA has made significant progress planting native trees in the park’s picnic area. Now, we are preparing to continue these restoration efforts in the area near the Mill River. Every tree planted is a step towards renewal. Join us. A donation today nurtures a greener tomorrow.

Programs that Inspire – Popular programs like the Giant Master Program, volunteer trail crew, and guided hiking program continue to thrive, creating meaningful experiences and lasting impact. These programs succeed because you believe in and support them.

As we look to the next 100 years of SGPA and Sleeping Giant State Park, we need you more than ever…

There’s more to do, and the path ahead is filled with opportunities. That’s why your special centennial gift to SGPA today, of $100, is so important.

Every step we take, every tree we plant, every trail we maintain — none of it would be possible without you.

Thank you for standing with us, for the Giant, for nature, for trails, and for our community.

P.S. Save the Date! SGPA is hosting a community-wide celebration on October 12, 2024, commemorating the park’s centennial. Imagine a day of joy, reflection, and community spirit, exactly 100 years from the day it all  began. Your support fuels these moments, and we hope to see you there.
