CT Trails Day – Introduction To Hiking The Giant

CT Trails Day is a statewide celebration of Connecticut’s incredible trail system, held annually on the first weekend in June. Organized by our friends at the Connecticut Forest & Park Association, this event invites people of all ages to explore, learn, and connect with the outdoors through hundreds of guided hikes and programs across the state.
This Introduction to Hiking the Giant program is perfect for those new to hiking or new to Sleeping Giant State Park. Led by experienced SGPA volunteers, participants will learn how to navigate the trail system, choose appropriate routes, and hike safely while enjoying scenic viewpoints along the way.
Hike Details:
- Distance: ~1.5 miles
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Terrain: Modest elevation gain, some uneven surfaces
- Route: Extended traverse along the Giant’s via the Blue Trail, then returning on the Yellow Trail
What to Bring:
Supportive hiking shoes, water, snacks, and sun protection.
What to Expect:
A supportive, educational experience with tips on trail navigation, safety, and making the most of your time on the Giant.
